What is Obesity?

Obesity is a disease of excess body fat. It is a poorly understood, chronic, metabolic disease that is caused by multiple factors, such as:
  1. excessive food and calorie intake
  2. decreased physical activity
  3. genetic or inherited causes
  4. medical conditions
  5. environmental and social conditions
  6. medications (antidepressants, steroids, insulin and other medications to manage)

Obesity is commonly measured by Body Mass Index (BMI).
