Body Mass Index
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement of height versus weight (BMI = kg/m2). It is a very reliable indicator of weight vs. height. It may not be accurate in some patients (i.e. athletes), because it does not take into account bone structure or large muscle mass. A BMI between 19 and 24 is considered ideal. This range (determined by insurance companies) is the weight at which people are considered the healthiest.
